I want something that not only conceals well, but something that conceals comfortably. I also need it to be accurate and put bullets where I tell them to go. Everything on this list is as reliable as anything man-made can be. If it doesn’t go bang reliably, I’m not going to trust my life to it, and neither should you. When choosing any concealed carry gun, there’s a few things I like to keep in mind: reliability, concealability, and shootability.įirst, reliability. Let’s talk about how I narrowed my list down, and then we’ll dive into the guns themselves. To keep this to a reasonable length (y’all know I like nothing more than running my mouth about firearms) I’ve forced myself to keep this to the top five choices out of the twenty-five that I’ve evaluated over the past year or two. I’ve carried just about every sub-compact 9mm from just about every manufacturer and I have just a whole slew of opinions about them. Thinking about picking up a sub-compact 9mm of your very own? Boy have I got news for you. In general though, these types of firearms make up the vast majority of carry guns these days, at least in terms of sales so it seems I’m not alone in thinking that a tiny niney is the way to go. With all of that in mind, here are a few tiny Sig Sauer pistols that are easy to conceal without losing an ounce of shootability. These days, it seems like I’m almost always packing either a compact or subcompact 9mm for my daily carry.įor someone who lives in the South like me, a smaller, easily-concealed handgun just makes more sense than trying to hide a full-size handgun, and is a lot more convenient. That’s why Sig designs extended magazines and extended beavertails that really help you control the pistol. Some design features can make a small pistol have less felt recoil while making it seem like a full-sized pistol. I found that a caliber you can shoot comfortably in a full-sized gun can be uncomfortable to shoot in a subcompact. Small, lightweight pistols tend to increase felt recoil. Some subcompacts have tiny sights that, in some cases, are pretty useless.Ĭaliber options for subcompacts run the spectrum from. Sig chooses sights that make it feel like you’re aiming a full-sized pistol. The features I like best about subcompact Sig Sauer pistols are the sights. It knocks the edges off the pistol-edges that can attach to clothing and impede a draw from deep cover. That’s why Sig offers its “Sig Anti-Snag,” or SAS, treatment on many of its pistols, including its subcompacts. After grabbing a handful of shirt with your support hand and grasping your weapon with your firing hand, you know guns with radiused edges and smooth surfaces are assets. Practice drawing your concealed-carry gun from deep cover-you know, from under your shirt with the tail tucked in. Not being able to get at the magazine release or lock the slide back easily can lead to serious issues. Tiny controls and tiny sights are a liability. It also makes sure you can operate the controls, manipulate the trigger and use the sights. Sig Sauer doesn’t just shrink the footprint of a pistol.
